Troy:
Troy, located in modern-day Turkey, is an ancient city steeped in mythology, history, and archaeological significance. Known primarily from Homer’s epic poems, the “Iliad” and the “Odyssey,” Troy is famously associated with the Trojan War, a legendary conflict between the Greeks and Trojans over the abduction of Helen, the queen of Sparta, by Paris, a prince of Troy.
Archaeological excavations at the site of Troy, conducted primarily by German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann in the late 19th century and later by others, have revealed multiple layers of settlement dating back millennia.
